Pool Rules and Regulations
Although lifeguards are on duty during most of our hours of operation, parents and guardians are responsible for supervising their children. Please respect the lifeguards’ role in enforcing the rules for the safety of all patrons.
I General Rules (These are applicable everywhere and are superceded by the area-specific rules.)
**PLEASE SHOWER AND USE RESTROOMS BEFORE ENTERING THE POOL**
1. When a lifeguard is on duty, children under 10 years old must be supervised by a person at least 14 years old, who is nearby and not reading a book or otherwise inattentive. When a lifeguard is not on duty, unsupervised children must be at least 12 years old.
2. Please NO:
- Running or horseplay on concrete decks
- Gum, food, or drink other than water in or near the pools
- Glass containers, alcohol, or tobacco use on OTHS property
- Throwing people into the air, or pushing/pulling on the head or neck
3. Children still in diapers may not wear any disposable type. Non-disposable swim diapers or tight-fitting plastic pants are required, instead.
4. “Piggy-backing” is permitted in the water, but someone may not sit on the shoulders of another.
5. Diving is permitted ONLY in the deep end of the lap pool.
6. No hard rubber balls, Frisbees, or excessively large tubes or rafts. Soft and inflatable balls and noodles are permitted, but may not be used to hit. Water guns are allowed when used responsibly.
7. OTHS kickboards and pull-buoys are for lap swimming and OTHS swim lessons only.
8. Do not stand or walk on the stone walls.
9. Do not hold on to or hang from the floating safety lines.
10. Bearing in mind the family-friendly environment, please keep Public Displays of Affection to a reasonable level.
11. Groups must maintain at least one chaperone per eight children.
12. During “Adult Swim” in the summer, swimmers between three and 17 years old must be completely out of the water. They may not sit on the steps or sides of the pool. The slide pool and kiddie pool are open for patrons during Adult Swim.
*ADULT SWIM TAKES PLACE @ 12:45, 1:45 AND 2:45. Please use this time to take a rest break.
Swim Test- This is required for children to swim in the deep ends of both the Hot and Lap pools. In addition, a child who is not 48 inches tall may take the swim test and if he/she passes, will be allowed to ride the slide. Deep End Lap Pool test requirement: Swimmers must demonstrate the front crawl stroke with rotary breathing for the entire length of the lap pool (approx. 25 yards). Once the swim test is passed, a yellow wrist band is issued. Please alert the Front Desk Staff about passing the swim test so they can issue a yellow wrist band whenever you visit. Deep End Hot Pool/Slide test requirement: Swimmers must demonstrate the front crawl stroke with rotary breathing for half the length of the lap pool (approx. 12.5 yds.) Once the test is passed, a green wrist band is issued. Please alert the Front Desk Staff about passing the swim test so they can issue a green wrist band whenever you visit.
II Hot Pool
1. No sitting, standing, or lying on the fountains.
2. No hanging from or climbing the sides of the bridges.
III Hot Pool Deep End / Climbing Wall
1. Children under 10 years old must pass the Swim Test, unless they are accompanied by an adult.
2. One climber on the wall at a time, starting from in the water. Everyone else must stay out of the drop zone, marked by the floating safety line.
3. After one attempt, the climber must swim to the end of the waiting line, allowing the next person to proceed. Dives, flips, or other tricks off the wall are not permitted.
4. Climbers may not wear any flotation devices, footwear, or goggles/glasses.
5. Patrons are not permitted to climb above the lower horizontal bar of the climbing wall railing, or use the sides of the wall to ascend.
IV Heart Spring – Patrons must be at least 15 y/o to be in this pool.
V Spas 1 and 3
1. No toys of any kind are allowed.
2. Children under 10 years old are permitted, provided they are accompanied by an adult and are sitting quietly, without swimming, splashing, or playing.
3. Children under one year old are prohibited for safety reasons.
VI Water Slide
1. Sliders under 48 inches tall must pass the Swim Test before riding the slide.
2. No glasses/goggles, flotation devices, footwear, etc. are permitted on the slide.
3. Only one person at a time is permitted down the slide. A lifeguard will instruct the slider when they may go.
4. Sliders must ride feet-first, on their backs, without stopping or deliberately slowing.
5. The slide pool is for slide use only. Sliders must exit the pool immediately after riding the slide. Sitting or waiting on the steps is not permitted.
VII Shallow Pool
1. Please NO:
-Standing on or jumping off the crab
-Tipping, rocking, or rotating the crab
-Swimming under the crab
2. Children must ride feet-first, one at a time, down the crab.
3. Patrons are not permitted on the wall dividing the shallow pool from the lap pool.
4. Personal kickboards may be used in the shallow pool.
VIII Kiddie Pool – open 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
1. Kiddie pool is open only when a lifeguard is on duty and the water spouts are operating.
2. Only children under 48 inches and their guardians are permitted. Guardians must be in the kiddie pool area with the children.
3. Children must ride one at a time, feet-first, on the slides, and clear the mats at the bottom for the next slider.
4. No walking up the slides.
5. No standing on or jumping off the play structures.
IX Lap Pool
A. Lap Lanes
1. No hanging on the lane lines. When crossing the lap lanes, be sure not to impede the other swimmers. Please go under the lane lines when traveling to and from the step ladder.
2. Lap lanes are for swimming laps only. No horseplay of any kind.
3. In the winter, lap pool is closed to persons under 15 and closes at 9 PM. When visibility is low due to fog, please use an orange cone to mark the lane you’re using.
B. Lap Pool Deep End / Diving Board
1. Children under 15 years old must pass the Swim Test, unless they are accompanied by an adult.
2. Divers must immediately move to the right, clearing the area for the next person in line.
3. Divers must wait until the previous person touches the side of the pool before using the diving board.
4. No glasses/goggles, flotation devices, footwear, etc. are permitted on the diving board.
5. “Gainers” or other dives where the diver’s head rotates toward the board are not permitted. Bounce once on the diving board only.
6. While the diving board is in use, other swimmers are prohibited in the diving zone, marked by the floating safety line.
7. The only toys allowed are noodles and those intended for divers to retrieve. Balls, rafts, etc. are prohibited.
8. The diving board is closed when a lifeguard is not present. Open: 12 – 6 p.m.
